If you want to draw conclusions about how great a advance has been made, the change to the online dictionary looks too big a factor to ignore. I was thinking that if the average max in the current series is 5% higher than it was when Dylan appeared, you could say that 5% of the difference in scores...

I'm not sure how many people can actually do this but I've seen people running down stairs while missing out steps and not tripping and killing themselves in the process. How is this even possible? I think it's a combination of balance, coordination and inertia I am better at running up the stairs ...

Another interesting thing is that when Julian Fell set his octo score of 924, it was seen as in a different league from anything before. I think one of the best examples highlighting the flaws of the current system is that Josephine Sinclair turned up to just CO:LON and came 30th there, but finished higher in the annual standings than Ed McCullagh who turned up to both Newcastle and Dublin and won both events. People who set their clocks fast. I've never understood anyone who has done this because they all know that it's 5, 10, or whatever minutes fast, which surely defeats the point. If I set my clock 20 minutes fast and it said 7:00, I wouldn't be thinking "it's 7 o'clock", I'd be thinking "it's 6:40" ...

I've just seen that there's a new (new since last year anyway) parkrun that's much more reasonably placed than the actual "Cambridge" parkrun called Coldham's Common parkrun. Assuming I come to this (and I probably will), this is the parkrun I intend to do.

Does this all call into question the accuracy of the buzzing system in other close situations? I've always wondered if there might be a bias towards one of the buzzers anyway, and as long as it's pressed within, say, 0.2 seconds of the other one, it will "win".
