Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

Magnificent post by a magnificent guy, Conor. :D ;) Apparently, only 570,000 turned up to watch the final on Friday....................: https://twitter.com/TVRatingsUK/status/307950607879270401 (Well, at least we beat The Common Denominator ) :D :( Still can't see Countdown moving back to 3:10 any ...

Re: Friday 21 January 2000 (Series 42, Prelim 15)

Tricky one, I think. I'm inclined to agree with you, Arthur, and I guess that's the reason why John didn't buzz. Having said that, as Gev said, if he did see it, it was a bit of a wasted opportunity. I'm sure at the time I was disappointed that John didn't break the record, but it wouldn't have bee...

ONLY 213 emoticons (not counting the ones in your sig)?!? :o :o

Just kidding. Utterly brilliant recap of an utterly brilliant game to end this utterly brilliant tournament, James. :D ;) ;)

Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

I haven't yet offered my congratulations yet, have I? Well, I will now. Many, many congratulations, Conor. To win this championship with a hat-trick of perfect games and the joint-highest 15-round score in the final - I think that's a darn good reason to play some Carly Simon... :D :D  :mrg...

Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

Probably a shame that that conundrum - appropriate as it was - ended up being the first non-crucial one in what felt like ages. And certainly a shame that the letters in rounds 11 and 12 were nasty. Ah, well - equalling Mr Fell's record is just as good as beating it. ;) The special guest isn't Jenny...

Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

Jesus Christ. 108-90 and we're only at the end of the second half. :o :o :o If Conor actually goes and beats Julian Fell's 146 here... well, then who is to say that he still isn't the greatest of all time?!?! And the order is still normal. That suggests that this long speech that Jenny* made was ind...

Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

I'm still not sure that Jenny is the right guest for a match like this, TBH...

I assume Damian will be on to this thread later - maybe he'll explain then why she was chosen for this week.

And jeez, is that really Conor's third nine already?! :o :o

Am I the only one who thinks that Nick could have dressed a bit better here?

It's almost like that grey suit is the first thing his hand touched, IMHO... :?

And Conor's found PONYTAILS. Ominous already.

Re: 30BC Grand Final Spoilers For Friday March 1st 2013

I would not be surprised if the rounds and guest spot/oow appear out of the normal order today as they will need more time for the presentations in the third segment. Now that you mention that, I wouldn't be too surprised either. That said, I believe there's only been one previous episode in the 15...

Re: B'day Championship Spoilers For Wednesday February 27th

Not-so-belated congratulations this time, Jack. :D ;) Hitting back immediately after that invalid spot, and then solving a second crucial conundrum in as many days, isn't bad going at all. 8-) And hard luck, Jonathan. You were brilliant throughout this tournament, and there's no shame whatsoever in ...

Re: B'day Championship Spoilers For Tuesday February 26th 20

On a catch-up mission here... This game wasn't at all dissimilar to the one last Friday - the only major differences being that a perfect game wasn't achieved (and in fact went out the window immediately), and that the contestant named Jack won. Belated congratulations, Mr Hurst (you don't mi...

Re: Friday 21 January 2000 (Series 42, Prelim 15)

Don't see why. He's not stealing anything from his opponent since he's out of the round. And he probably would hsve got it anyway so to deny yourself the record in that way is mental. What I was trying to say there is that it wouldn't be absolutely satisfying to see the record go after your opponen...

Would have left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth, IMHO...

CJ may be a knob, but Eggheads just isn't as good without him.

Re: 10 ways to improve Countdown Viewing Figures

1. Get a good presenter. I quite like Nick, actually. Rachel certainly likes him, anyway. ;) If he did go, though, then Damian and his team might as well bite the bullet and go down the same route as HIGNFY and Never Mind the Buzzcocks... 2. Put Countdown back to an erstwhile time. The prime-time s...

Round 9: G N A T E F F I C C2 buzzes on 6 seconds to say EFFACTING which is incorrect. C1 does not buzz. The answer was AFFECTING. Score: 80–38 (max 93) :( Nearly highest score ever  A rather remarkable error by Amey, IMHO - good sportsmanship from John in choosing not to profit from it, regar...

Apologies for bumping this thread, but... If John Suchet, Alastair Stewart and Nicholas Owen can all be guests, then why not Michael Buerk, John Humphrys or Peter Sissons? And why not Henry Kelly, Matthew Kelly (no relation), Gordon Burns, Roy Walker or even Richard O'Brien? As for previous guests, ...

Re: B'day Championship Spoilers For Monday February 25th 201

In DC all this week, for only her 2nd stint in DC, is the comedienne and part-time Loose Woman, Jenny Eclair. I'm actually quite surprised that they've chosen Jenny for this week. I don't not like her, mind - but, this being the final week of what is basically the second Supreme Championship, did t...
