25,50,75,100 are a very inefficient set of large numbers because their co-factors lead to a lot of duplication in achievable targets if you have 2+ large numbers. If you take this into account then 12,37,62,87 being more useful shouldn't be too big a surprise.

Seems interesting, but I tried the "Sizzling" puzzle and either I have misunderstood or there is an error. Box20 + Box10 = 22 Box20 + Box18 = 5 As all boxes are integers between 1 and 12 this does not work, there is no number I could put in Box20 that would enable both the above to be true.

You've stumbled upon my cure for insomnia. Unfortunately it works very well so I can't give you any amazing insights, but you can use 3 numbers to get up to 17 if you pick 2,3,10. I suspect this is the maximum possible.

Yeah, I'd say it would increase average scores, but decrease the chances of a 146 or 146-beater. However, 146 can be beaten with three 9s, so essentially there's only a 3/11 chance that by reducing the letters rounds to 10 you'd actually take away one of your nines. I believe that salt is supposed to have some effect on the yeast when making bread (slowing down the fermentation rate or something) - so it does serve a purpose. Don't know about the technicalities, but if you leave the salt out then the bread is practically inedible. Salt doesn't make bread taste...

The FA Cup is not fair. Fair is not necessarily automatically desirable. Fair is generally biassed towards the strongest players which can make for a predictable (dull?) tournament. Fair point and I agree, though I think this format would be fairly unpredictable anyway without this additional quirk...
