Re: Is Countdown a 'guilty pleasure'?
I am absolutely 100% proud to admit to anyone that I love Countdown. :D And even more proud when they're impressed that I'm good at sums. I would also never under value the joy or importance that a show can have on someone's life. Sport seems quite unique in that people rearrange weddings, holidays...

Re: Reaction to the final
Thoroughly enjoyed the final, cracking game but Junaid was a worthy winner. Commiserations to Charlie, maybe he was dwelling on the fact that following his Octochamp run he only got two proposals from the female Countdown viewing population? :) If I was only single...... and 30 years younger!! ;) D...

Re: Happy Christmas From The Countdown Team
Merry Christmas to everyone on the forum (except weirdos, nerds and geeks)! But this is a Countdown forum, surely we're all nerds and geeks? If good written English makes us all weirdos, nerds and geeks, so be it. This is the best forum I have ever found for good spelling and punctuation. Keep it u...

Re: An alternate title for Countdown
I believe you, Naomi, and Kathie, who is sarah? Hi Jason, Now you know who Sarah is, I'm sure you'll understand that the UKNova website would be far too complicated for her. I've just checked the site, by the way, and it must be great for people living beyond the Astra satellite footprint, but I do...

Re: An alternate title for Countdown
Yes, I watch Countdown on the website, http://www.uknova.com, and I did know that an American Countdown pilot was scrapped for being too intellectual. Sorry Jason, I didn't look at this thread until after I'd asked you how Sarah could receive Countdown in Canada on the 'Other Topics' thread. I thin...

Re: Terrible weather in Seattle today
Wow, Kathie! I'm amazed this person can write and describe it so well! Hi Jason, Sarah is an absolute delight and all her letters are amazing. She's been housebound for several years and lived in Anglesey, with a view of Mount Snowdon from her window there, before her son insisted on her moving to ...

Re: Terrible weather in Seattle today
Talking about the weather in Canada, I thought you might be interested in a letter I received this morning from a 92 year old relative who has recently, very bravely, emigrated to Alberta. Quote: "When I opened the blinds this morning I saw such a delightful vista as I have ever seen. More snow...

Re: A new set for a new season!
Hi everybody, especially Charlie who I want to congratulate for at least getting to the final and what a way to lose by getting the conundrum. Perhaps the glass trophy will be easier to house than all those huge books anyway! I haven't been to this site for a while because I've been busy writing Chr...

Re: Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes
I think he has been a refreshing change from the usual celebrity guests. He has a wonderful dry sense of humour. I really enjoyed Ran's visit and hope he'll come back sometime. I read his autobiography (Living Dangerously) a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, so I guessed his anecdotes would ...

Re: Spoilers for Monday 27th October
I was sitting in the audience for this game and got both nines and almost everything else. Was seriously annoyed that I'd missed out on playing in it. That must have been so frustrating for you to see those 2 nines. You could have had a record score with those, and the feeling of elation for gettin...

Re: Drink of water
Some contestants I really take to and hope they win and some I really don't like at all, especially when they reach for the water. I mostly prefer men to women, although young boys like Conor or Kai I really do go for and am gunning for them all the way. Conor, especially, was amazing as he found wo...

Just thought I'd say hello! This looks like a friendly & intelligent forum. I have barely seen Countdown for years - when did they add in extra rounds? I used to watch after school in the mid 80s, and again when I was supposed to be thesis writing in the mid 90s. Tuned in a couple of weeks ago ...

[I know it's a strange name for a Brit, but my husband is Catalan and, as we were married in UK, I had to take his name. I'm fairly sure not everyone does. True. My brother-in-law took my sister's name, for one. Hi there, Oh yes, of course, but in 1971 it wasn't very normal, or, to be honest, I did...

Hi there, Hi Kathleen. Welcome. I am struck by your name. Kathleen Battle is also a pretty splendid American soprano. I think she still does a few recitals, but in her operatic heyday she was excellent. I am sure you have equally amazing talents. Ralph Hi Ralph and all the other newcomers. Wow, isn...

Hi everyone, Decided to join today when Charlie mentioned the website as I've been watching Countdown for years and love it. Can't imagine the show without Carole, but there must be plenty of likely candidates for the job amongst past contestants. I've loved Des O'Connor as host as he always has int...
