I don't think nines from Classic Games should be included. :| Aye, they do look confusing somewhat. I had a moment of wondering if there was some bug in the randomisation when I saw the same selection numerous times for a particular nine until I twigged it was in a classic game played numerous times.

I good way to look at the double letters in such as TUNNELLED is to remember that the vowel before a single letter is usually long, whereas before a double vowel it's shortened ( viz . CONNED and CONED), so TUNNELLED is pronounced properly, but strictly TUNNELED would sound like "TUNNEELED"...

I never really did understand the obsession with single-move score. Usually they're nine-timers, which in themselves are exceptionally rare- in the order of 1 every 150 games. High game score, on the other hand, is understandable- skill across several moves is always more boast-worthy than one move...

We had enough yesterday for a nice icing sugar effect on the frozen canal, and about six hours of proper stuff on the ground on Monday. That's pretty good for Edinburgh. I miss Yorkshire weather.

I don't think the issue was Carol not getting 831; it was the fact that Carol claimed it to be impossible. Thus, Whiteley challenged the viewers to prove Carol wrong and, eventually, someone did. I thought it made for a very good running joke for a few months. I certainly remember the running joke ...
