He got caught cheating last year and has been banned for two years and had to give trophies back but not prize money AFAIK. I believe he repeatedly overdrew tiles and palmed or cherry picked them. I think it made the newspapers. Probably not the Times though. He hasn't admitted guilt nor apologised....

I did meet Zeff at a Scrabble tournament in Essex many years ago and it was only because he was an early keyboard warrior in the Scrabble community too

Book recommendations

I've just read a very good book called Johnny Ruin by Dan Dalton I was surprised that the author is British as it captures aspects of Americana brilliantly. If you liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind you are sure to like this. Right that's my book recommendation for this year What are yours ?

He was no Buddy Holly that's for sure, who was only 22 when he died and was a terrible loss to music, and would almost certainly have been bigger (although probably not in physique ) than Elvis.
