Very impressive champion; I'm puzzled though. The wiki has him listed as an apterite, presumably a very highly ranked one. Normally that means there's a number of fellow-apterites on these spoiler threads commenting on games and offering support, especially if it's a young player. Yet it's seemed ve...

Well, I guess most people felt sorry for John, as I did - until he picked 3 large in the penultimate round. What was he playing at? OK, I appreciate he almost certainly didn't know the record was in reach, but it must have been obvious that Elliot was on for a fantastic score. Why potentially make i...

Re: Spoilers for Friday December 21st 2012 (Series 67 Final)

Tremendous series finals, best I can remember - 8 well matched seeds, head and shoulders above the rest of the contestants, but little to chose between them. Many congratulations to Paul, commiserations to Heather. Suggestion for future - record some new series heats after the semis so that the fina...

Re: Spoilers For Thursday December 20th 2012

Thought the previous two games were excellent but this was even better. Heather's "materiel" was surely as good a spot in this game as "planetoid" in an earlier one. But David's been brilliant with some of his words too and must have been gutted to lose out - but extremely magnan...

Re: Spoilers For Wednesday December 19th 2012

Just watched last two shows back to back - great stuff, particularly Rose's comeback against Liam. Well played to all three, look forward to seeing Paul in the final. But just think, if only Rose had biceps to match Paul's.... Out of nerdy interest after the early rounds in the semi was wondering ho...

Presumably to give the higher seed the perceived advantage of nominating 2 numbers games.

On which subject I had (75x2+9)x6 =954 in the second one.

Re: Spoilers For Monday November 19th 2012

Many congratulations Heather. Looking forward to the finals and there will surely be a mother/daughter special one day won't there? Unless you've frightened her off of course....

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday November 7th 2012 (Series 67 #67)

Just caught up with this, super performance Heather. I hadn't spotted waterside but as soon as Phil said "waterised" I realised what he'd missed and I must admit I genuinely felt sorry for him. However a nano-second later that thought had passed and was really delighted you'd kept up the f...

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday September 26th 2012 (Series 67 #3

Was this recorded in the new Salford studios at Media City? Or back in Manchester city centre? There was a separate numbers board in the Leeds days, so the whole thing flowed much more smoothly, and the audience were closer to the action (and seen far more often than at Manchester). I was hoping tha...

Re: Spoilers for Friday August 10th 2012 (Series 67 Prelim 2

The question of whether a word can only appear "in combination" is a difficult one, anyway: every full sentence has to have a verb in it, so does that mean all nouns and adjectives should be disallowed because they can't appear on their own? :-D Surely it's not whether they can appear on ...

Re: Countdown's 30th Birthday

Nice idea Ciaran but they'd have had to plan this yonks ago. Recordings would be taking place in only a few weeks from now so potential contestants would need to have been invited some months back. It's a shame they won't do a CofC, though that's just about more understandable than inviting Brandret...
