Re: Carol Vorderman on Would I Lie To You?

Firstly I think Would I Lie to You is the funniest programme I've seen for ages, and even better now it has Rob Brydon chairing instead of Angus Deayton. It's nothing like Call My Bluff and is well worth watching. Anyway I really don't believe that Carol did that business with her pen if she had tim...

Re: Shuffling

Demi, I hope you and the others are somehow able to keep your jobs, but if not I'm sure everyone on here who has been on the show is gutted for you. It would be a tragedy to break up such a great, friendly team of people. And your shuffling was fine by me!

Re: Countdown words spotted in real life

What a good thread! I lived in New Zealand for a few years and tangelos were common there. I also had a tamarillo plant in the garden and if that hasn't turned up yet it would be a very satisfying nine. When I was on the show one of the words I got was saltire, which was nice as it was the name of t...

Yes, I'm enjoying your programs Neil and hope you win a few more. You're a good all-rounder with a pleasant manner, and also you remind me of Alastair McGowan for some reason. Do you do impressions? There's an idea for a DC guest. By the way, I like Kate Humble in DC. At least she sounds like she kn...

Re: Dictionary Corner Guests

Good idea Hannah. Saw an old 'Whose line is it anyway' on Dave recently and I'd forgotten how good he was (and hopefully still is). There are others from WLIIA who could be good guests too, eg Clive Anderson, Josie Lawrence, Stephen Fry, Graeme Garden, Sandi Toksvig - and curiously looking at the wi...

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 4th February 2009

Irrelevant to this but as I mentioned Apterous earlier - I had the day off today and tried it from a PC this morning. It worked and I was able to get in and play a game, so maybe it's just a problem in the evenings when it's probably busier. Anyway it was very good, so thanks Charlie. Martin - yes, ...

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 4th February 2009

I may have got the letters wrong again, but I think ENDGAMES was in there somewhere. And as for Apterous - love to try it but over the last two weeks I've tried repeatedly from numerous different macs and PCs and have never once managed to get past the screen that counts down until it times out so i...

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday 3rd February 2009

Moroccos was in the round where Susie had roomers. I would have risked morocco but wasn't sure about the plural, however OED says it's OK.

Personally I loved the U2 jokes, but I'm not sure the contestant got them either, or maybe she was too polite to groan ...

Re: Claims to Fame

I can claim 'last person to win on a Saturday' - well, to be more accurate, last person to be shown winning a game on a Saturday afternoon on Channel 4 (in case there have been repeats at some odd time on Saturdays since then). And not even my relations watched it ........

Re: What is it like to be on countdown?

I'm not sure I agree about the need for all contestants to be high quality. They need to be quite good, but not all octochamp level or it would stop appealing to people who play along at home and like to beat the contestants occasionally. My tips for the audition would be to practise writing down th...

Yes, as everyone has said, it was an amazing game. Well done both of you - wow! And played in a friendly way too which made it all the more enjoyable to watch. As others have said, I think it was the best game I have ever seen. The only alternative I have to offer on any round is CALORIES (on the DA...

Re: Rachel Riley Unveiled.

Times doesn't bother me, but 'by' does, as in four by three. I guess it just depends how you learnt maths when young. I have trouble getting my head round 'into' as well, as in 5 into 20 instead of 20 divided by 5. There's nothing wrong with it, it just takes me a while to get what they are saying. ...

Re: Apterous

I tried using Apterous for the first time today and failed miserably. At work, on a PC, I hit what I think is a firewall restriction. So unreasonable to stop people playing in the office! At home I've tried it on two different macs which both have the latest version of Java for Mac OSX but after cli...

Re: Des Lynam

I haven't seen enough of Jeff to judge yet, but early impressions definitely place him above DOC and maybe RW. It depends what you're judging on really. RW was bumbling and sometimes seemed mystified about what was going on, so if you rated him as a professional presenter he would rate pretty low, b...

Yes, I agree with everyone about Rachel's stance. They either need to raise the board a few inches or encourage her to wear shorter heels. Otherwise she did well and hopefully will relax more as time goes on. Jeff did a very good job and seems like an excellent choice. The main thing we found slight...

I will be sorry to see Carol leave but I agree - there must be lots of smart presentable graduates who could do the numbers job. Or Jon O. Yes, he would probably be entertaining, as would most of the people on Ben's list, especially David Tennant. I don't think we should restrict ourselves by wondering whether they would be willing to appear on not - Damien might have to worry about such things but we don't. How about Fry and Laurie to...

So this is where you've all been hiding! I hadn't looked at the old c4countdown since Christmas but seeing Chris Wills on the telly on Saturday prompted me to have another look at it. It was like going to visit an old friend and finding they had moved house! My introductory bit is that I was on Coun...
