If number of points were used, I think the finals stages would be too predictable. "Twists" like that generated by the current system are what make Countdown finals stages all the more exciting, IMO.

Yep, wasn't far off. Every vowel except a third E would have given a 9, and the lack thereof cost me a century.

Oh yeah, small inquiry here -- what happens if one of the predictions is neither higher nor lower, but exact? For example, what happens if Tom beats Graeme by exactly 49 points in Game 1?
