There's certainly some evidence for obesity being genetic, although since factors are usually compounded by eating habits learned by parents it's not clear-cut. Leptin's usually held up as being the chief culprit but there are certainly other hormonal controls for diet, appetite and activity levels....

One of my parents' business enterprises when I was a kid was having an ice cream parlour - we did 55 flavours. Funnily enough I didn't eat ice cream for at least 15 years after they sold it. Cookies and cream is fab but tutti frutti is sick and wrong.
